Nurses and other travelers take assignments for different reasons. Some are looking to earn the most money possible, some are looking for a new experience and for many other reasons. There is no one-size fits all housing solution. Some professionals only want their own house with a yard and garage for their car. Others are fine with a private bedroom and sharing a bathroom. The important part is pricing appropriately for what your offering.

Why would a traveler look for a private room?

Most of the reason comes down to cost. Sometimes finding a completely private rental within budget can be expensive. This is particularly difficult in high cost cities like San Diego, San Francisco, Seattle, Boston and similar cities. Others might be traveling along and want some kind of social interaction outside of work.

What should I include in my listing?

Clear rules and expectations on what is shared and what is not. Is the bathroom shared? Is there a separate kitchen or is the kitchen shared? Are there off limit parts of the house? Can the profesional have overnight guests or pets? Clear and upfront expectations in the listing and messaging can help prevent awkward and uncomfortable situations later down the line.

Clear pictures and even a house layout can be very helpful. Give the potential renter a good idea of the space and what kind of privacy they should expect.

Not every traveling profesional will want or consider a private room. There are plenty that will, and it can be an excellent way to earn some side income to offset your living expenses. Professionals usually make for great roommates, they are more concerned with good rest and working than creating drama.
